By Jeanne Grunert via http://www.adp.com/thrive/articles/
Startup companies are careful with their capital. For this reason, many wait to implement an advertising strategy, but if businesses wait too long, their customers may go elsewhere.
While it's true startups don't have the millions of dollars big companies have to pour into flashy advertising campaigns, there are many inexpensive advertising tactics small businesses can take to promote themselves. More...

BEST ADVERTISING STRATEGY: J.F. KRUSE JEWELERS
POSTED BY STEPHANIE THEISEN via http://blog.leightonbroadcasting.com/blog
CLIENT OVERVIEW
Founded in 2000, J.F. Kruse Jewelers has been a local destination ever since. Because of this, they’ve earned their spot as the eighth entry in our Best Advertising Strategy series.
Jim Kruse is the “founding father” of the company. The term is fitting because he’s since passed the business along to his daughter, Melissa. She started working there in 2003 and quickly learned the trade with help and encouragement from her father. Both Jim and Melissa are certified gemologists from the Gemological Institute of America, a distinction very few jewelers achieve because of the rigorous schooling, on-site training, and high testing standards. THREE NON-TRADITIONAL WAYS TO BRING IN CUSTOMERS
POSTED BY STEPHANIE THEISEN via http://blog.leightonbroadcasting.com/
You’re ready to open the doors for your grand opening celebration. Your employees are hired and trained, product is ready to go, business cards are printed, and the “Opening Soon” sign is hanging in the front window. You’re excited beyond belief to launch your lifelong dream of being a small business owner.
Your billboard is going up and a direct mail piece is going out the week of your grand opening. You’ve made a buy with a local radio station. Yet, you feel like there’s something missing. What else is out there that can bring more pizzazz to your grand opening?
Then, you remember one of the radio stations in your town did a live broadcast on-location at another local business. Bingo!
The anecdote above is one simple example of dozens I encounter every year. Many business owners don’t realize the full scope of what their local radio station has to offer. More...

A VISUAL LOOK AT THE BEST LOCAL ADVERTISING STRATEGIES [INFOGRAPHIC]
POSTED BY STEPHANIE THEISEN via http://blog.leightonbroadcasting.com/
Over the summer, we've shared nine of our favorite local advertising strategies. What I love about these strategies is how varied they are; yet they each share a commonality. They're varied in their message and in their approach to radio advertising. However, they share the same theme in that they're powerful in their simplicity. Instead of clichés and tired language, they use consistency with powerful language and uncommon words; most have a memorable jingle, too.
Here's a visual look at them: More...
BEST ADVERTISING STRATEGY: CLEARWATER TRAVEL PLAZA
BY STEPHANIE THEISEN via http://blog.leightonbroadcasting.com/
CLIENT OVERVIEW
Since 1976, Clearwater Travel Plaza has been in the business of serving professional drivers and travelers alike. They’re far enough away from the Twin Cities to avoid the chaos of the traffic, but close enough to not be out of the way either. They’re also our final entry in our Best Advertising Strategy blog series
Located just off interstate 94 in Clearwater, they’re in a prime location for anyone on the road to stop by for just about anything they may need. And when I say just about anything, it’s true. Clearwater Travel Plaza is one of a kind. They’re not just a gas station. They're a travel plaza with a full service restaurant and bar, bakery, food court, gift shop, car wash, fuel center, and convenience store. They even offer catering services through Cutting Edge Catering. More...
BEST ADVERTISING STRATEGY: BIRCHWOOD
BY STEPHANIE THEISEN via http://blog.leightonbroadcasting.com/
CLIENT OVERVIEW
This client has earned their spot in our Best Advertising Strategy series for many reasons, which I'll touch on below.
Birchwood Electric started out strictly as locally owned residential electricians. Due to the high demand, and an employee with background in the industry, they’ve since expanded into security and home technology systems. Plus, those were natural line extensions for a company already specializing in residential electrical work. More....
